Online job search
Online job search
options have improved with an alternative to the
more conventional online search that most job
hunters have become accustomed to. Many
companies in technology related industries allow
online resume submissions directly through their
websites.
Resumes and job hunting
Resumes and job hunting skills are the main
factors that will contribute to you being able
to find a job. In most cases, your resume and
cover letter will be the only items employers
will have to decide whether or not you will be
called in for an interview. With only this one
chance to make an impression, you had better
make it a good one.
Resumes for job hunters many times contain
several common mistakes and you should do your
best to avoid these at all costs, unless, of
course, you want somebody else to get that job
you're after. First and foremost, don't lie on
your resume, not even a little bit! A little
white lie can come back to haunt you even after
you've landed a job, so do yourself and your
career a favor and avoid it at all costs.
Common Mistakes
Some job hunters, especially a beginning job
hunter, will often create a resume with good
information on it, but it will look messy or
unorganized. Well, if you haven't received the
memo, a messy and unorganized resumes for job
hunters is highly unprofessional, which is
exactly the opposite of how you want your resume
to be perceived. If someone sees this type of
resume they will automatically assume that those
attitudes will be carried over to your
performance on the job.
Having misspelled words and grammatical errors
on your resume is also highly unprofessional and
reflects poorly on you. This only shows that you
have little attention to detail and little
regard for the quality of your work. Your spell
checker won't catch everything either: it can't
tell if you "write software" or "writ software."
Another rookie mistake is including personal
information on your resume. If you're proficient
in origami that's great, but unless you're
applying for some sort of craft position it
would be best to save space for more relevant
items. Also, leave out descriptions of gender,
race, religion, marital status, etc., as these
traits are useless on a resume (an employer
can't legally discriminate based on these
factors anyway).
